Conference Goal:
To bring together students, staff, faculty and leadership from MnSCU community colleges interested in advancing entrepreneurship with regional entrepreneurs to build and create the connections necessary to strengthen and improve entrepreneurship opportunities for students across Minnesota.

9:25 – 9:55 am Morning Keynote – Doan Winkel

Engaging Students and the Campus in Entrepreneurship

Doan Winkel is an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship at Illinois State University in Normal, IL where he teaches ideation and business modeling. Doan is also the Associate Director of Programs at The George R. and Martha Means Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Illinois State, overseeing all campus wide entrepreneurship program development and implementation. Doan is also NACCE Entrepreneurial Fellow.

He believes that students can do anything, and that faculty and administrators need to work harder to provide the motivation for students to engage in their educational experience. Everything he does, in the classroom, and with any program he develops, focuses on engaging the students in some sort of experiential exercise that mimics the reality of entrepreneurship. He is the founder of The Entrepreneurship Education Project, the co-founder of the USASBE Launch! student business model competition, and a co-founder of three early stage startups.

10:15 – 11:00 am Panel One: Inspiring and Mentoring the Entrepreneurial Spirit on the College Campus

President Ronald Thomas, Dakota County Technical College, MinnWest Technology Campus Entrepreneur Representative (to be determined), NACCE Curriculum and Training Fellow, Christine Mollenkopf-Pigsley, and NACCE Community Outreach Fellow, Tim Putnam will discuss the foundation and future of mentoring the entrepreneurial spirit.

11:00 – 12:00 pm NACCE-led Workshop - The Five Steps to Creating an Entrepreneurial Community College

In this workshop, the NACCE team will guide participants through the five action steps of the Presidents for Entrepreneurship Pledge, a proven methodology for creating an entrepreneurial mindset within the community college and leveraging this mindset to stimulate innovation and job creation in the communities served by the college.

12:00 – 1:00 pm Lunch (Heglund Catering)

1:00 – 2:00 pm Panel Two: Financing the Small Business - Resources and Opportunities for Entrepreneurs

Presenters from local and regional financial and business support institutions will delve into the challenges and opportunities facing current and prospective entrepreneurs. These experts will cover all aspects of small business financing, beginning with planning and identifying financial resources to growing and expanding a small business.

2:00 – 3:00 pm Panel Three: Examples of Correlations and Pathways Between MnSCU Entrepreneur Programs and Entrepreneur Experiences

Faculty and students will discuss the pathways between college experiences and entrepreneur experiences. This workshop will highlight both strengths and opportunities to further develop partnerships between MnSCU institutions and entrepreneurs.

3:00 – 4:00 pm NACCE-led Workshop – Community Partnerships

In this highly interactive workshop, facilitators will assist participants in identifying and mapping campus resources (personnel, entrepreneurship champions, physical space, programs, etc.) as well as community resources (local businesses and organizations, funders, facilities, existing community programs, etc.) that are essential in building a sustainable entrepreneurship ecosystem that supports the mission of the community college and the economy of the community it serves.
