Shared Vision for Small Business

Seven colleges were recipients of grants in the "Shared Vision for Small Business” grant competition conducted by the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE) and the Sam’s Club Giving Program. The grants were announced at NACCE’s 11th Annual Conference.

NACCE serves as the Shared Vision project director for the funded colleges and is the liaison with Sam’s Club for the tracking and reporting of project activities and outcomes.  The objective of this project focuses on microenterprises and colleges scaling up current training and services, and also creating new training programs based upon business need.

Expected project outcomes for business owners are to (1) gain capabilities through new skills, processes, or technologies; (2) view community college as a support system for continued success, and (3) have the knowledge to recognize and address skill gaps.  Colleges are expected to sustain their efforts in training microbusinesses by leveraging funding opportunities, creating new revenue streams, creating awareness of resources for microbusinesses, and evaluating the value of their training. NACCE will convert the project outcomes into training and resources, giving NACCE member colleges the access to content for replication at their respective colleges.

The community colleges receiving grants and focus of their work plans are as follows:

"We wish to congratulate the community colleges receiving grants for their dedication to teaching entrepreneurship and their willingness to expand and improve their approach,” said Susan Koehler, Senior Manager, Community Involvement, Sam’s Club. "We know how challenging it can be for small business owners to make time to work on their business vs. managing the day-to-day. We hope our Business Members and local entrepreneurs will explore how community colleges can serve them to grow their operations, ultimately helping them to increase revenue and create jobs.”
