Dr. L. Marshall Washington
President, New River Community College and Technical College
L. Marshall Washington, Ph.D., became the third president of New River Community and Technical College on March 25, 2013. He attributes his love of learning and education to the people who have believed in him and invested in him as he has made the journey from first generation college graduate to president of a multi-campus institution. He brings to New River a passion for serving students, faculty, staff and community members.
Dr. Washington previouslyserved as vice president of the Lancaster Campus at Harrisburg Area Community College, Pennsylvania and Vice President of Student Services at Kellogg Community College in Michigan.
Washington received his doctorate in educational studies/specialization in educational leadership and higher Education from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Lincoln, Nebraska; a master’s degree in education from Winona State University, Winona, Minnesota and a bachelor’s in elementary education from Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, Ohio.
He is a 2012 graduate of the Lakin Institute for Mentored Leadership. He graduated from the Executive Leadership Institute of the League for Innovation in the Community College in 2009 and from the Future Leaders Institute-Advanced of the American Association for Community Colleges in 2008. He received the TRIO Achiever Award from the Mid-American Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel in 2009.
Washington and his wife Tonja, have three children: a daughter, Lauren, and sons Ethan and Jordan.
