Stephen Weir, CEcd
Executive Director of the Greenbrier Valley Economic Development Corporation
Stephen Weir is a Certified Economic Development Professional (CEcD).
With over twenty-five year of experience, Stephen Weir has managed economic development organizations from the city to the state level. He has been responsible for the renovation or creation of many economic development programs in Ohio, West Virginia and Japan. He has participated in the initial development of port authorities in Columbiana and Belmont counties in Ohio and Kanawha County in West Virginia. He started the economic development office under the Belmont County Community Improvement Corporation and, as director, re-organized the Business and Industrial Development division of the Governor’s Office of Community and Industrial Development under West Virginia Governor Gaston Caperton. He represented Governor Caperton at the following organizations: Software Valley Corporation, Southern Growth Policy Board, Southern Technology Council and the National Science and Technology program. While director at the state division, he oversaw the recruitment of Swearingen Aircraft, Columbia Forest Products, Georgia Pacific, Trust-Joist/Macmillan and Navy Arms Company among others, totaling in excess of $100 million in capital investment.
Stephen Weir international trade experience includes the establishment of West Virginia’s first international trade office in Nagoya, Japan and trade missions to Japan, Belgium, Switzerland and Canada.
As a consultant, Stephen Weir has worked with the first World Trade Center Exposition, IMX Center in Cleveland, Ohio, the proposed start-up of the Marine Assistance Association and directed the production of the Kanawha Valley Local Port Authority master plan.
Stephen Weir has lived in West Virginia for over twenty years and is a graduate of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
