NACCE Summit Series Competition

The National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE) invites its members to host a local NACCE-sponsored event that is integral to NACCE’s overall belief system as a membership organization dedicated to creating economic vitality through entrepreneurship. The event will:

  1. Promote commitment to an interdisciplinary approach to entrepreneurship education that empowers students to think entrepreneurially
  2. Create deep-rooted connections with local entrepreneurs. Efforts will result in deeper learning experiences for students, improved curricular effectiveness for faculty, engaging opportunities for small business owners, and increased institutional capacity and leadership.

As a NACCE-sponsored training, a NACCE Summit brings together key stakeholders who are essential in building a sustainable, high-impact entrepreneurship program at a community college and the area it serves. As part of this gathering, attendees have the opportunity to network with other entrepreneurially-minded colleagues, to share best practices, and to gain core skills that enable them to implement the five NACCE commitments below.


NACCE commitments are five impactful actions a college can take to promote a culture of entrepreneurial thinking on campuses.

Successful implementation of the commitments at a college requires several elements, including:

  1. Commitment from the college leadership to ensure sustainability of efforts;
  2. The education of faculty and staff representing multiple disciplines on campus to work together so entrepreneurship is not viewed as a program or a major, but a way of empowering students to think entrepreneurially; and
  3. Deep-rooted connections with local entrepreneurs that result in deeper learning experiences for students, improved curricular relevancy for faculty, and engaging opportunities for small business owners. The NACCE Summit Series Competition provides the opportunity for individual community colleges or consortia of community colleges to host a high-impact, regional one-day event. This event will include a meet-up for college presidents and a day of learning, sharing, and networking for community college faculty and staff based on a challenge or issue in entrepreneurship education that is unique to that region, area, or community.

NACCE will provide support to host colleges by providing:

  • The overall structure of the event
  • Speakers for NACCE-led sessions
  • Online registration for the event
  • Free registration for 10 attendees designated by the host college
  • Content for the presidential meet-up
  • Funding for planning time, materials, local marketing, and food

Host colleges will provide the following:

  • Content and speakers for "regional”-designated sessions
  • Event space and A/V equipment
  • Local marketing
  • Lead person to liaison with NACCE in the planning, marketing, and execution of the event
  • A guarantee of at least 60 participants (50 paid @ $179/NACCE members or $279/non-NACCE members, 10 free for attendees designated by the host college)

Funding

Through the generosity of Sam’s Club and The Coleman Foundation, NACCE is able to offer $40,000 in total funding for the NACCE Summits for 2013. Funding will be negotiated with awardees in early January; however, we are anticipating an average award amount of $3,500 for Summits with 60 attendees.

Eligibility

Applicants can be either an individual community college or a consortium of two or more community colleges within a self-defined region. In a consortium proposal, one community college must serve as the Lead Applicant.

Applicant colleges (as an individual or as the Lead Applicant in a consortium proposal) must be current organizational NACCE members with an active key contact and at least five sub-members on record. The leader (president, chancellor, CEO) of a college applying either as an individual applicant or as part of a consortium must be signed onto the NACCE Presidents for Entrepreneurship Forum no later than Friday, November, 16, 2012.

 

Proposals must be emailed to Megan Ballard, NACCE>’s Chief Operating Officer, at ballard@nacce.com no later than 4 p.m. EST on Friday, December 14, 2012. The project abstract and project description should be submitted as PDF or Word attachments, and must be separate documents.

Awards will be announced by Friday, December 28, 2012.
