Changes Are 'a Happening

Laramie County Community College is experiencing changes as our Entrepreneurship Program Manager, Belinda Kolb, has accepted a position as Policy Analyst with the Wyoming Community College Commission. I am serving as interim contact person for the Elevator Grant project and can report that we have a team working on enhancing all our academic program advisory committees. This work will help guide the development of a strong advisory committee for our Entrepreneurship Program. I know we have several potential candidates in mind. We appreciate this opportunity to continue the work that Belinda began!

Laramie County Community College Grant Update

Anya Petersen-Frey has joined LCCC as the Coordinator for the Center for Entrepreneurship. Anya worked with Belinda as an instructor in the Entrepreneurship program and is also on campus as the regional director of the Wyoming Small Business Development Center. In the past month some exciting entrepreneurial endeavors have been developing. Anya presented the overall theme of our entrepreneurship goals to the Deans of each department and the reception was wonderful. The College is beginning it's Students in Free Enterprise club to further build the concept of the entrepreneurial culture throughout the college and develop a strong student leadership. An on-campus advisory committee is underway and a collaborative college and community committee has been created for a unique project between LCCC and the Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce. The committee consists of LCCC instructors and administrative representatives and business leaders that are members of the Chamber to facilitate a Business Challenge Grant which provides in-kind and financial support for a growing business. This committee will determine criteria for the grant and LCCC will provide administrative oversite and in-kind education for the grant winner. This project brings the entrepreneurial business community onto the college campus providing opportunities for students and faculty to access these terrific resources. One of Anya's goals is to help LCCC become a model for entrepreneurial education that brings the business community and campus together into a blended educational environment - the on-campus and college/community blended advisory committee's are a key step in that process.
