NACCE 2013 Off-Site Tours

Optional: NASCAR Hall of Fame
Date: Monday, October 14, 2013

 

NASCAR Hall of Fame is an interactive, entertainment attraction honoring the history and heritage of NASCAR. The high-tech venue is designed to educate and entertain race fans and non-fans alike. Come join your NACCE friends by becoming part of the action. Your admission includes a private tour of the facilities by a NASCAR docent, the opportunity to race your NACCE friends in one of the most state of the art racing simulators, and try your hand at being the fastest pit crew around.

After the museum experience, we will stay within the walls of the Hall of Fame and make our way to Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner and drinks. This portion of the tour is at your own expense, and we encourage you to look at Buffalo Wild Wings menu online prior to sitting down for dinner.

Cost: $47 for shuttle, tour, race simulator experience, and crew pit challenge

Logistics:

  • 6:00PM: Depart for NASCAR Museum
  • 6:30PM: Begin at NASCAR Hall of Fame: Tour of Museum, NASCAR Race Simulator Experience and Crew Pit Challenge
  • 7:30PM: Dinner (on own) at Buffalo Wild Wings (located in NASCAR Museum building)
  • 9:00PM: Conclude dinner and return back to hotel

Optional: Packard Place – The Hub for Entrepreneurship & Innovation in Charlotte
Date: Tuesday, October 15, 2013

 

Join in with your NACCE conference colleagues in a private tour of Packard Place one of the fastest growing business incubators in the U.S. They have grown and supported the development of incubators and early stage communities like Queen City Forward, RevTech Labs, CLT Joules, and CLT Pay. Their 90,000 sq. ft. building sits proudly in the heart of Uptown and is considered to be the "first true home in Charlotte for entrepreneurs built by entrepreneurs."

Don't miss your opportunity to get a private tour by one of their facility Directors who is also a co-chair of StartUp North Carolina. Interact with a few of the small businesses that currently reside there. This tour will have you walking away with great ideas and suggestion on how to build, sustain, and collaborate with an existing incubator to help your local community. You will end the tour by helping yourself to a cup of coffee that contains beans that are specially made from a small coffee house in town and shared with any entrepreneur that enters Packard Place.

Logistics:

  • 2:45 PM: Bus to leave Hilton Charlotte University Place
  • 3:15-3:30PM: Estimated arrival at Packard Place between. The tour will last approximately 1 hour.
  • 4:30-4:45PM: Bus to leave Packard Place
  • 5:00-5:15PM: Arrival back at the Hilton Charlotte University Place


Optional: Taste of Charlotte

South of Uptown, South End is Charlotte’s first industrial area and the home to many locally owned restaurants and businesses. Join your NACCE conference colleagues for some locally famous flavors and brews from Sauceman’s BBQand Triple C Brewing Company. Then travel to NoDa, one of Charlotte's exciting social areas, rich in culture and texture. While visiting NoDa, we’ll make stops at Heist Brewery and Amelie’s French Bakery. All stops are with non-chain, locally owned and operated locations. All of these have won awards and continue to be fan favorites with the people of Charlotte.

Cost: $62 for shuttle and dinner which includes beer tasting, BBQ, more beer, flatbread pizza and dessert.

Logistics:

  • 6:00pm: Bus to leave hotel to visit Triple C for beer tasting & Sauceman’s BBQ tasting
  • 7:30pm: Depart for NoDa
  • 7:45pm: Arrive at Heist for beer and flatbread pizza tasting
  • 8:30pm: Continue to Amelie’s, for dessert
  • 9:00pm: Approximate conclusion of tour

Siemens Energy – Community College Connections
Date: Tuesday, October 15, 2013

Pioneering efforts on the part of Siemens Energy to innovate and expand the high tech manufacturing footprint in the Charlotte region required an extraordinary commitment to provide their workforce with cutting edge training. This special plant tour and meeting with their executive manager will provide you with a model of the type of work in advanced manufacturing and the sophisticated level of workforce development required. The relationship between Siemens Energy and Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) has gained much national attention on the critical role that community colleges play in developing our nation's workforce. There is no cost for this tour. Transportation is included. Mark Pringle, the senior executive at Siemens Charlotte, and Dr. Tony Zeiss, president of CPCC will welcome you and tell you their story that illustrates how high tech manufacturing in the U.S. is indeed entrepreneurial.
