Nunez Community College in Chalmette is expanding its program offerings to include two new technical diplomas. The new programs will be in culinary entrepreneurship and industrial maintenance. A technical diploma is an applied, technical degree program of 45 –60 semester hours and can only be offered by community and technical colleges in Louisiana.

"Through the culinary entrepreneurship diploma students will master skills in both culinary arts and entrepreneurship.  They will be able to successfully start and manage their own small business within the food-service industry," said Dr. Mary Bartholomew, director of the Nunez entrepreneurship center. "Students will gain proficiency in two thriving areas of work within our region - culinary arts and entrepreneurship."

Like the culinary entrepreneurship diploma, the new industrial maintenance technical diploma also prepares students for an in-demand field. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, the industrial maintenance field is expected to grow by 17 percent by 2022, outpacing the average growth rate for all occupations.

"The industrial maintenance diploma builds upon our strong tradition of offering trades and industry credentials at Nunez. We have always strived to support what is happening in industry with our programs," said Don Hoffman, professor and industrial technology program director.

Students can enroll in the new technical diploma programs for the fall 2015 semester. On-campus registration assistance will be available from Wednesday, August 19 through Saturday, August 22. Classes start Monday, August 24. Anyone interested in enrolling for fall can contact the Office of Admissions at (504) 278-6467.
