Clintonian honored for promoting small businesses, outdoor features

The Mississippi U.S. Small Business Administration has selected John J. Woods of Clinton as its 2009 Small Business Journalist of the Year.

He will be honored at the 2009 SBA Mississippi Small Business Awards Reception on June 16 at the Mississippi e-Center, 1230 Raymond Road in Jackson.

The award is given to a journalist representing television, radio, electronic or a print medium who has gone beyond job requirements to promote small business. Woods was nominated by James Harper, director of the Small Business Development Center at Hinds Community College.

Woods is an award-winning outdoor writer and photographer having published over 2,000 articles with credits in over 30 publications and books since 1978, including the Wall Street Journal.

An avid hunter, Woods is a freelance writer with Magnolia Outdoor Communications lauding the economic development benefits of outdoor recreational businesses and small business entrepreneurs to Mississippi's economy.
