Haywood Community College should be commended for the role it played last week bringing together job seekers and businesses that are hiring.
The college held a job fair March 30, which attracted more than 350 job seekers. Thirty Western North Carolina businesses that are hiring set up booths, providing information and collecting applications and resumes for available jobs. HCC even had an area where job seekers can receive an evaluation and input on their resumes.

The job fair, coupled with the college's expanded continuing education opportunities, demonstrates HCC's commitment to and its role in the community. The role of a community college is to provide an affordable higher education to recent high school graduates, as well as provide continuing education opportunities to adults looking to further their career opportunities or to make a career change.
Each year through partnerships with local industries, the college provides training opportunities for employees and career advancement courses for working professionals.
In addition, through the Continuing Education Division, HCC provides training to emergency medical technicians, firemen and law enforcement officers. Haywood Community College also offers personal enrichment courses through community service such as quilting, sign language or upholstery.
In addition to providing continuing education to professionals, Haywood Community College offers an entrepreneur program to help those struggling to start their own businesses. The Business and Entrepreneurship Department consists of eight programs and one concentration with an emphasis of employability of the student upon graduation. Classes can be taken online or in the classroom, providing more convenience for the working person looking to become his or her own boss.
