Edgecombe Community College Program to Help Displaced Workers

Edgecombe Community College has been named one of eight community colleges in North Carolina to administer a new program to assist workers who’ve lost their job start their own business.

Growing America Through Entrepreneurship is being directed in Edgecombe and surrounding counties through the college’s Small Business Center. North Carolina is one of four participating states.The program began last April and is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor. It will operate as a scholarship, with up to 750 scholarships to be awarded in the state.Selected laid-off or dislocated workers from rural counties will be eligible for individual training and coaching related to starting and running a business.
