Butler Community College expanding their small business education offerings

WICHITA, Kansas – With the recent downturns in employment and the economy, many are considering going back to school. And at one Kansas college, classes are ramping up for those wanting to start a business.

Kansas has a long history of successful entrepreneurs. Layoffs, longevity and opportunity have fueled a surge in the number of business startups. Education is key to success. WSU has built the nationally-renowned Center for Entrepreneurship and other institutions, like Butler Community College, are expanding their small business education offerings. Overall, enrollment is up 17 percent there.

"There is no one demographic,” said Jackie Vietti, president of Butler Community College. "And that's the beauty of it. If you think really about the essence of it, it defies description. Students can come and acquire skills that match their passion in those fields and then we can couple that with resources if they want to start their own business.”
