Youths learn to make Nuts, Bolts and Thingamajigs at Springfield Technical Community College summer

SPRINGFIELD – After tinkering around in his grandfather's machine shop for years, Ethan MacGray decided to forget sports camps for a summer and try his hand at something less conventional.

Donning safety goggles, the 13-year-old worked on the finishing touches to an engraved brass tag that he had crafted, sandblasted and drill-pressed.

"This is the best camp I've ever been to,” said MacGray, of Charlton, one of a dozen kids from Western and Central Massachusetts to enroll in "Nuts, Bolts and Thingamajigs,”; a machining and manufacturing camp at Springfield Technical Community College'sTechnology Park.
