Mason City, IA – Oct.
12, 2010 - The John Pappajohn Iowa Business Plan Competition came to a close on
October 6 with the announcement of the winners at the Iowa Entrepreneurs
Conference and Venture Forum.
Receiving first place
in the competition and $25,000 is Energy Control Technologies (ECT), a company
that designs, manufactures and implements automation systems for the oil and
gas, industrial/manufacturing, and biofuels markets. ECT’s systems maximize
operation safety and minimize energy consumed. ECT was founded in 2008 and is
located in West Des Moines, Iowa.
IDx came in second
place and will receive $15,000. IDx is working to commercialize low-cost eye
disease screening tools that have been developed at the University of Iowa. The
company was founded in 2010 and is located in Iowa City, Iowa.
The third place
company, which will receive $10,000, is LuCella Biosciences. LuCella
Biosciences provides custom carbohydrate-based reagents to accelerate
immunology, biology and vaccine discovery. The company was founded in 2008 and
is based in Ames.
The four honorable
mention companies are Cabin Coffee Franchising Inc., Growth Design Energy Mt.
Valley LLC, J&J Solutions, and Pathovacs. Each of these four companies will
receive $1,000.
