Sheridan, WY October 26, 2010: Sheridan College Workforce Training and Development was awarded $7,500 with an additional $2,500 match grant in the Elevator Grant competition funded by the Coleman Foundation at the 8thAnnual National Association for Community Colleges Entrepreneurship (NACCE) Conference held earlier this month in Orlando, FL.
The "elevator grant” method is based on the business planning skill of describing a new business venture in a three-minute pitch that could be given to a potential investor during an elevator ride. Immediate deliberation by the foundation’s board and staff ensured "on the spot” funding. Eighteen of the thirty-six community colleges that submitted proposals for the Elevator Grant funds were invited to present at the NACCE conference in Orlando, FL. The Coleman Foundation awarded grants totaling $104,000 to nine of the 18 community colleges that presented.
