DOL Grant and Entrepreneurship - New Funds Available

There are new funds available to your college to develop entrepreneurship programs and training.

The U.S. Department of Labor has just announced the availability of up to $500 million in grant funds. These funds will be awarded under the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training grants program (TAACCCT).

Funds are available to community colleges to expand and improve your ability to deliver education and career training programs that can be completed in two years or less, are suited for workers eligible for training under the Trade Adjustment Assistance for Workers program, and prepare program participants for employment in high-wage, high-skill occupations.

Under the "Build Programs That Meet Industry Needs, Including Developing Career Pathways” on page 7, an area of concentration prominently listed is: entrepreneurship training, including mentoring and peer-to-peer training, which may be appropriate and effective in serving the needs of the targeted population.

Community colleges are being encouraged to assess the needs of their community and region to determine where efforts can be concentrated to meet these needs in the most effective and efficient way possible.

NACCE believes community colleges with greater capacity and depth in its entrepreneurship programs will elevate communities in a way no other training program can. I am therefore, encouraging you to seize this opportunity to launch or expand your entrepreneurship programs.

I would be grateful if you would provide me with an update in the next 30 days advising if your college plans to incorporate entrepreneurship training as one of your capacity building initiatives.
