Two programs coming soon to Catawba Valley Community College will have a wide appeal.
First up, this Friday, in celebration of National Entrepreneurship Week, the college's business department is sponsoring a speaker's forum on "Promoting Entrepreneurship in Our Community." The Catawba Valley Emerging Entrepreneurship Club is co-sponsoring.
A guest panel will discuss startup companies as a promising source of new jobs. The program begins at 10:30 a.m. in the auditorium on the CVCC campus, on U.S. 70 in south Hickory. The public is invited to attend. There is no charge, but seating is limited.
Panelists participating are Tony Wolfe, president and CEO of Peoples Bank; Houston Harris, president of PixelSpace; Michael Neely of Blind Squirrel Digital; Michael Shoup, founder and former CEO of Wheelchairs Plus; and Garrett Hinshaw, CVCC president.
Then, in March, the college will bring world-class kayaker and documentary filmmaker Doug Ammons to Hickory as a part of the Visiting Writers' Series. "Three Days of Adventure Writing and Cinematography" will take place March 22-24.
"Outside Magazine" has named Ammons as one of the top 10 adventurers of all time.
