Entrepreneur Offers Business Start-Up Advice at Wake Tech

"If I can do it, you can do it.” That's how Chris Angel feels about launching a successful small business. The marketing professional-turned-entrepreneur shared the secrets of his success with 100 small business owners and would-be entrepreneurs at Sparians Bowling Boutique and Bistro this morning. The event was part of the Wake Tech Wachovia Wells Fargo Center for Entrepreneurship Speaker Series.

Angel spent 15 years in the global software industry before deciding to strike out on his own. "I always wanted to be an entrepreneur,”Angelsays. In 2009, he enrolled in a Wake Tech program called "Planning the Entrepreneurial Venture.” The course helped Chris develop financing strategies and write a business plan. Angel pitched his idea to Raleigh developer John Kane, who was impressed. Kane invested in the project and Sparians opened in the posh North Hills complex in December 2010. The unique business, which blends bowling, dining and entertainment, is booming. "We've hosted 900 events since we opened,” Angel says, "including wedding receptions, corporate parties, a fashion show, and even the Carolina Hurricanes' Super Bowl bash!”
