Nurturing the next crop of entrepreneurs

When Cayuga Community College begins offering courses this fall in a wine studies concentration, it will represent much more than expanding our academic offerings. The wine studies program successfully combines unique regional flavors to create a recipe for successful entrepreneurship that is attracting national attention.

As many people already know the basics of winemaking — flavor extraction, fermentation, bottling and aging — many businesspeople know what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. Profitable ventures or influential leaders create partnerships, reward innovation, leverage resources, promote flexibility, seek new opportunities, are market-driven, and encourage risk-taking. These are characteristics of entrepreneurs.
