MCCC Incubator
Client Competes for Shelf Space at Walmart
Feb. 20, 2012, Blue Bell, Pa.—Matthew Chalal, one of
Montgomery County Community College’s first business incubator clients, is
ready to launch his product with Walmart—all he needs is your vote.
Chalal, CEO and owner of Banner Industries LLC, is the
creator of Flashcar—a fun, educational board game that helps children improve
their fundamental math skills while they race their cars around the track to
the finish line.
Chalal, who has been growing his entrepreneurial skills in
the College’s business incubator since 2010, recently entered Flashcar into a
contest sponsored by Walmart called, "Get on the Shelf.” As part of the
contest, he created and uploaded a promotional video featuring Flashcar on Walmart’s
contest website, where viewers can watch and vote for their favorite product.
To view and vote for Flashcar, visit www.getontheshelf.com/product/1360/Flashcar. The
first round of voting is from March 7 through April 3. The top 10 products from
the first round will be eligible for the second round of voting from April 11
through April 24 to determine the top three products. You can also help spread
the word by sharing the link on Facebook and Twitter.
The final winning products will be eligible for featured
placement on Walmart.com, and the grand prize winner with the most votes will
garner a spot on Walmart store shelves. Winners will also receive free
marketing support and advice on how to increase the production scale of their
products.
The support services offered at the College’s Center for
Entrepreneurial Studies (CES) business incubator have fostered the growth of
several businesses started by its entrepreneur clients since its opening in August
2010. The CES provides free marketing and legal guidance from practicing
professionals in those fields. Small Business Association and SCORE
representatives also offer free business counseling onsite.
Additionally, the incubator provides furnished office space
with computer and office equipment at the reasonable rate of $250 per month to
help new entrepreneurs direct their funds into their businesses instead of
their overhead costs.
For more information about the Center for Entrepreneurial
Studies or the business incubator, contact CES Director Ayisha Sereni at
