MINNEAPOLIS, MN | The National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE), the nation’s leading organization focused on promoting entrepreneurship through community colleges, has named City College of San Francisco (California), the 2021 Heather Van Sickle Entrepreneurial College of the Year at its 19th Annual Conference, currently underway in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota. Dr. Betty Young, president of Hocking College, in Nelsonville, Ohio, has been named NACCE’s 2021 Entrepreneurial President of the Year.

2021 Heather Van Sickle Entrepreneurial College Award
NACCE’s 2021 Entrepreneurial College of the Year, City College of San Francisco (CCSF), places entrepreneurship at the heart of the work that they do. The EFS Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is at the front and center of the college’s major initiatives, and is a key driver in delivering accessible and inclusive education to non-traditional students, building an entrepreneurship curriculum that is inclusive and transformative. CCSF has six certificates housed in the various centers of the college – with two more on the way in 2022 – as well as a dedicated portal to provide a platform for students to have access to a thriving ecosystem that supports their needs, and to network and collaborate within an entrepreneurship community outside of CCSF. Recently featured as a college by PBS in the “Inside California Education” series, entrepreneurship at CCSF has also been recognized by the Philip E. & Carole R. Ratcliffe Foundation in NACCE’s 2020 Pitch for the Trades and by HP Life in 2019.

“City College of San Francisco is leveraging the power of entrepreneurship education to transform the lives of aspiring entrepreneurs and micro business owners in the Bay Area,” said Rebecca Corbin, Ed.D., president and CEO of NACCE. “The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in San Francisco, mentoring and coaching students. We are thrilled with the work that CCSF is doing and the engagement that they are seeing in every sector. We are thrilled to announce them as the 2021 winner of NACCE’s Entrepreneurial College of the Year Award.”

2021 Entrepreneurial President Award
Betty Young, Ed.D., president of Hocking College, weaves entrepreneurial spirt and mindset into everything that she does. During her tenure as president, Dr. Young has developed a model of what can be done with entrepreneurial leadership in small town America, embracing innovative projects and engaging her community. From her adventures as a campground owner to the pet grooming salon that she opened to develop student career opportunities, opportunities to propel Hocking students and the town of Nelsonville forward.

“President Young approaches everything that she does with an entrepreneurial mindset, engaging teams in innovative projects, and turning adversity into opportunity,” said Corbin. “She embraces her students and her community and leads them confidently into the future. We are proud to honor President Young with NACCE’s Entrepreneurial President of the Year Award for 2021.”
