 Masterminds Academy - October 8 - 11, 2016 in Sacramento, CA

Vision

To prepare and engage a delegation of up to 15 community college students from LACCD to the national NACCE Conference in Sacramento, CA where they would assume key roles at the conference that align with their areas of study and participate in the learning and sharing at the conference. The preparation of the delegation prior to the conference will include soft skills training through the New World of Work program, a dress for success coaching session and a scholarship for professional attire for the conference. Students would also receive etiquette and customer service training. At the conference, the students would be supervised by Dean Adriene “Alex” Davis and Deputy Sector Navigator Doris Driver along with NACCE staff members. At the end of the Conference students would be recognized for their completion of the Academy with a special award and sponsor gifts.

Selection of Students

Students in the LACCD would be invited to submit a two minute video on-line describing their interest in participating in the program and what they hope to learn from the experience. A selection committee has been formed and a rubric created to insure the fair selection of students. In addition to focusing on diversity, the selection committee would seek students with specific interests in the following areas that align with the experiential opportunities at this national conference:

• Business Technology
• Communications
• Project Management
• Sales & Customer Service
• Theater, Entertainment and/or Stage Design

Value to the Students

Students selected for this program would receive complimentary registrations for the NACCE Conference; Cooperative Education Work Experience internship college credit; and funding for travel, lodging and food while at the NACCE Conference. They would receive career development coaching and experience that would assist them in securing, retaining and succeeding in a future job. Students would also receive a scholarship to purchase a professional suit for the conference and for future interviews. Importantly, students will recognition for their successful completion of the NACCE Masterminds Academy program and their service to NACCE and the LACCD. The network and contacts that they would make at the NACCE Conference would be valuable leads for career opportunities as well.
