Director of Business Acceleration and Innovation Services

Category/Level: PSS/7

Start Date:  December 2018

Basic Function: Work collaboratively in the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center and Small Business Development Center team and with external stakeholders to provide exceptional business consulting and accelerator services to start-up companies and existing small business.

Deliver programming to improve the region's culture of entrepreneurship and innovation by helping entrepreneurs to solve opportunities and problems faced by the regional economy and industry clusters.

Lead training programs using Lean Launchpad methodologies for startup and existing businesses based on the official National Science Foundation I-Corps curriculum.

Promote and solicit for new start-ups business and develop a revenue model for specific services.

Will provide assistance and consulting to start up and existing businesses in all phases of business in need of funding (to include private equity, debt, grants or other opportunities, including assistance and support writing and editing their grants), management and operational expertise to improve their chances of success.

Salary and Benefits:  Salary based on experience.  Fringe benefits of Blue Cross/Blue Shield major medical health insurance, eye care, dental, life and disability insurance.  Retirement benefits as provided by Social Security and IPERS or TIAA.

Enhance NIACC's capacity to build effective regional economic development partnerships among key stakeholders: e.g., SBDC, EDC's, IEDA, cities, counties, and other local, state and federal agencies.
Create and deliver consulting services and programming to bring in new clients and industry to utilize our services.
Provide support for NIACC's regional EDC's and their efforts in economic development.
Build relationships among key economic groups so that NIACC is among the first choice for assistance with funding, business consulting services, education services, etc.
Provide leadership, recruitment, and supervision of accelerator clients.
Understand and work closely with the Iowa Economic Development Authority, CIRAS, VentureNet, SBA, SBDC, USDA and other agencies to provide access to funding. Assist with the writing and editing of the applications to insure the best possible chance of success.
Facilitate access to and provide for onsite training, workshops, consultation, and mentoring to accelerator prospects.
Align activities and resources to foster the Entrepreneurship and Innovation strategies of Goal 3 in the Vision North Iowa Plan ( 
Perform in a manner which strengthens the coordination and cooperation of all organizational components of the College, including opportunities for student recruitment.

Qualifications: Req: Baccalaureate or higher degree in Business Administration or related topic area with a minimum of 5 years' experience of successful business ownership, consulting experience or related experience. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as an effective leader. Must demonstrate strong communication skills, initiative, public presentation skills, and knowledge of entrepreneurship and business management. Must be able to provide for some of the direct needs of a company; consulting for example in financing, manufacturing, marketing, sales management, management consulting, operations or financial, etc.
