Crowdfunded Capital- New Funding Options for Entrepreneurs
Wednesday, July 25th
Over the last 10 years, with the broad adoption of the internet, entrepreneurs have a vast toolbox at their fingertips that they can take advantage of to efficiently and effectively launch and grow their businesses using the crowds. The first step in using the crowds is understanding how the ‘crowd cloud’ works.
The presentation will start with an overview of rewards based crowdfunding and will highlight the differences of Crowdfund Investing. Zak Cassady-Dorion and his colleagues at Startup Exemption wrote the framework the Crowdfund Investing legislation. He will give an explanation of how the framework was developed and of the campaign which ended on April 5th with the signing of the bill into law (part of the JOBS Act).
The collective knowledge and power of the crowds is greater than any one person or any small group of people. There are many ways that entrepreneurs can tap into the crowds to help their venture be successful. Raising money through Crowdfund Investing is not right for everyone. By understanding how crowdfund investing works, mentors will be able to advise their mentees on how to best use the crowd.
Crowdsourcing, crowdlending, and rewards based crowdfunding have been around for awhile and for some businesses, they may be more appropriate to use than Crowdfund Investing. Zak will briefly describe these other ‘crowds’ to give an understanding on when it is appropriate to use the different options.
Having a thorough understanding of crowdfund investing will be invaluable to entrepreneurial support organizations. When someone is launching a business they have a million and one things that they have to stay on top of. As many of you know, being an effective and valuable mentor means understanding the tools that your mentees can use to enhance their success.
This presentation will give you a base of knowledge so you can help guide your entrepreneurs through their crowdfunding campaigns.
