Two Educators Honored for Work in Entrepreneurship Education and Technical Assistance

The National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE), the nation’s leading organization focused on promoting entrepreneurship through community colleges, partnered with ed2go to honor two educators with Impact Awards at its 14th Annual Conference October 8-11 in Sacramento. NACCE Impact Awards honor faculty and staff members who have shown excellence in providing entrepreneurial education and technical assistance.

Andrew Gold, Ph.D., a Business Administration professor at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida, received the Excellence in Teaching Entrepreneurship Award, and Lorinda Forrest, Small Business Deputy Sector Navigator-Central Valley & Mother Lode Region at Delta College in San Joaquin, California, received the Excellence in Providing Technical Assistance and Training to Entrepreneurs and Existing Businesses Award. Both recipients received free registration for the NACCE 2016 Annual Conference, free Ed2Go courses, and a $750 travel stipend. These awards were funded through a generous donation from ed2go, an industry leader in online learning for adults.

Gold was honored for his unwavering commitment to changing the world as an entrepreneurship educator. He is known for his superior teaching ability and comprehensive knowledge of the field and ability to provide exceptional experiential learning opportunities for students. He is also known for being innovative, collaborative, knowledgeable, student-focused and has an outstanding track record of implementing innovative and impactful initiatives.

Gold has helped move the college forward on projects like the Veterans Entrepreneurship Symposium, Toolbox Speaker Series, Pitch Competitions, and Entrepreneurship and Innovation College Credit Certificate. He has also made significant progress in engaging local entrepreneurs and community leaders, bringing them together in the Tampa Bay area.

He is responsible for increasing the number of Advisory Board members from 5 to 30; increasing the number of Internship Site agreements from 0 to 10; overseeing 25 speaker series events and five pitch competitions; leading more than 10 conference presentations; and securing two grants on behalf of the college.

Lorinda Forrest was honored for her as performance as part of the Small Business Sector team, a component of the California Community Colleges’ statewide initiative, “Doing What Matters for Jobs and the Economy” program. In the region, she has built relationships with colleges throughout the region, universities, chambers of commerce and other economic development entities. She has also helped launch a series of faculty entrepreneurship mini-grants, collaborated with business plan competitions and an Entrepreneurship Pathway project with the CSU Fresno Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship that allows for expedited articulation of community college courses with CSU entrepreneurship courses.

Igniting entrepreneurship across the region, Forrest is also an advisor to Patino High School, the first entrepreneurship-focused high school in the country. She also achieved the following: led the effort to develop the Eship Educator Curriculum Sharing website as a statewide resource for teachers and faculty teaching entrepreneurship; hosted a Presidents for Entrepreneurship Pledge signing ceremony for her host college, San Joaquin Delta College; hosted an educator Cultivating Entrepreneurship Symposium to bring together faculty from across the region and state to share best practices; partnered with local chambers of commerce to support the Young Entrepreneur Academy program for high school students; and took a lead role in planning a Contextualized Entrepreneur Curriculum Collaborative to bring together Business & CTE faculty.



The National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE) is an organization of educators, administrators, presidents and entrepreneurs, focused on inciting entrepreneurship in their community and on their campus. NACCE has two main goals: 1. Empower the college to approach the business of running a community college with an entrepreneurial mindset, and 2. Grow the community college’s role in supporting job creation and entrepreneurs in their local ecosystem.
